What to wear and spare equipment:
Loose sports clothing. i.e. Shorts / T shirts , old trainers or flip flops.
(NOT WELLINGTONBOOTS).
Please be aware when the sun is out it will reflect off the water making it very hot , so please dress accordingly to minimise risk of heat stroke and sunburn. Also weather conditions can change very quickly on your journey. Bring a change of clothes just in case.
PLEASE DON'T WEAR DENIM/JEANS Do bring:
A drink, chocolate bar, snack or picnic, especially if you are not planning to stop off at a pub en-route. Suitable sunscreen is also recommended. Do not bring:
Expensive jewellery. If you choose to bring watches, cameras, video cameras etc it is at your own risk- waterproof containers can be provided but are by no means a guarantee of full protection . We cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage to any of your effects. Alcohol:
Alcohol should not be consumed prior to your trip. Anyone found under the influence of alcohol or any other substances will not be permitted to hire or participate in the event. We discourage large amounts of alcohol being taken on the river and have the right to confiscate it until you return. Rubbish: As per the countryside code please protect the countryside and wildlife by not leaving rubbish on the river banks or by dropping it in the river. Bring it back with you and we will dispose of it for you.
Insurance:
Messing about on the Mersey has full public liability through Adventure Activity Insurance scheme run by Jardine Lloyd Thompson. This covers you fully when on a guided trip and against any fault against equipment provided by us when hiring equipment.
DEPOSIT:
A deposit is requested prior to coming on a trip. The amount may vary depending on the size of the group.
Where the group is less than 10 people this is refundable prior to 1 week (after this 50% of your deposit will be held for the rest of the year as a deposit against another trip).
Where the group is more than 10 people you may cancel prior to the last 2 weeks (additional freelance coaches will be booked in for these trips and will be paid using your deposit if canceled within the last 2 weeks) and no refund will be given.

When accompanied by a guide they will make all the relative decisions and there assessment and directions will be final. If you choose not to follow their instructions then liability will move from them to yourselves.
Conditions of HIRE and health and safety guidelines, rules and regulations.
Your safety is paramount to us. Please read our Health and Safety advice and other guidance as they are for your safety and the enjoyment of your trip. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions relating to your canoes, other equipment and the River you are travelling down.
1. LETTING. We are letting and you are hiring the goods stated for the period of hire shown, upon the terms and conditions set out in this agreement including those set out over leaf. All equipment will be checked as fit for purpose before letting out.
2. YOUR OBLIGATIONS. You will :
2.1 USE AND LOCATIONS : keep the goods in your possession and under your control at all times. (Boats to be locked with chain provided if left unsupervised; paddles, buoyancy aids, helmets and any other equipment to be kept with you).
2.2 SAFETY EQUIPMENT : wear a buoyancy aid and helmet at all times whilst on the river.
2.3 AGE : be over 18 to hire a boat : if under the age of 18 be accompanied by an adult.
2.4 HEALTH : notify us if you or any of your party has any health issues such as asthma, diabetes or heart disease this should be discussed first and us made aware of these conditions. In certain circumstances we may discourage you from taking part in the event. Anyone with a current history of epileptic seizures should not participate in this activity.
2.5 MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC : be considerate to all other river users ie; fellow canoeists, fishermen. You will not fish unless you have the appropriate permit to fish and a National Rod License.
2.6 ACCESS & PORTAGE : only land at designated landing areas. Any additional access to the banks must only be made where choosing to avoid an obstacle in the river and must be carefully carried out to avoid damage to the river bank.
2.7 YOU WILL NOT GO DOWN THE WEIRS AT NORTHENDEN OR ASHTON MERSEY BUT USE THE PORTAGE POINTS (If you choose to do so at Northenden it is at your own risk to equipment and self – under NO circumstances should any paddler go over Ashton Mersey Weir as there is a hidden concrete slab which may well cause a fatal entrapment.)
2.8 LOSS OR DAMAGE. Be responsible for, and indemnify us against, loss of or damage to, or caused by the Goods whilst in your possession howsoever caused, and notify us as soon as practicable of any such loss or damage.
2.9 PROHIBITION AGAINST SALE ETC. Not to sell underlet, or dispose of the Goods, and will indemnify us against all losses, costs, claims, damage and expencies howsoever occasioned by your breach.
3. CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGE ETC. We accept no responsibility for consequential loss or damage howsoever arising from the letting evidenced by this agreement unless it arises from our negligent act or default.
4. BREACH. You should commit any breach of this agreement we may terminate the agreement and you will no longer be in possession of the Goods with our consent.
5. JOINT HIRERS. Where you are more than one, each of you is separately responsible for performance of this agreement.
6. RISK. By taking part in Kayaking and Canoeing you are recognizing that there is a certain level of risk and danger associated with with taking part in this activity.
